BANGKOK, March 28. /TASS/. A bridge across the Irrawaddy River in Myanmar collapsed during a strong earthquake, the Myanmar Now news agency reported.
The bridge, which was more than one kilometer in length, spanned the Irrawaddy River between Mandalay, the country's second-largest city, and the city of Sagaing.
A video published by the news agency shows the fall of at least five of its spans. However, another bridge located nearby remained intact in the earthquake, judging by the footage released.
According to the China Earthquake Administration, the quake's magnitude was 7.9. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center estimated its magnitude at 7.7.
The tremors occurred 33 kilometers southwest of the city of Mandalay, which is home to 1.2 million people. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km.
