KIEV, March 28. /TASS/. The situation with the spread of natural fires in the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exclusion zone has stabilized, radiation background is normal, Vadim Denisenko, adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Minister, announced on Monday.
"Information is coming from various channels that there is allegedly a fire on 10 hectares," the Ukrainian edition Strana quoted him as saying, "Two weeks ago there was indeed a fire there, but the fires managed to be extinguished. Today we can say that there are no big fires on large areas. The situation with fires in Chernobyl is stable and under control. Radiation background in Kiev and the region is normal".
Earlier, Ukraine's Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources reported fires in forests and abandoned villages near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The Russian consumer watchdog is monitoring the radiation situation in Russia in connection with the fires in the exclusion zone. As the agency's press service pointed out on Monday, it remains stable.
