Crime group reportedly involving five Russians arrested in France

PARIS, February 16./TASS/. French authorities have arrested a crime group that involved immigrants from the former Soviet Union, the Prosecutor’s Office in Rennes said on Tuesday.

According to it, the criminals specialized in theft of jewelry, cigarette smuggling and car thefts, operating in France and Belgium. According to Rennes Prosecutor Philippe Astruc, charges were brought against two women and 13 men. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the criminal group involved seven natives of Georgia, five Russians, as well as nationals of Armenia, Azerbaijan and France.

Spokesman for the Russian Embassy to France Sergey Parinov told TASS that the embassy was checking whether there were Russian nationals among the detained persons. "A corresponding request was sent to the competent French authorities," he said.
