Search for sailors from sunken vessel in Barents Sea is over

"Neither the victims nor the objects of search have been discovered," the press service of Russia’s Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport said

MOSCOW, January 4. /TASS/. A search for the crew members from the Onega fishing vessel, which sank in the Barents Sea, has been stopped, the press service of Russia’s Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport said on Monday.

"Neither the victims nor the objects of search have been discovered. The search effort is over," a spokesperson said.

The Onega fishing boat sank on December 28 due to the icing in the Barents Sea near the Novaya Zemlya archipelago. Only two out of 19 people onboard were rescued. A source in the emergencies services told TASS that all remaining 17 sailors were presumed dead. A criminal case was launched into violating safety rules and maritime transport operations.
