More than 40,000 people have been evacuated from the Shasta County in the last week due to the raging wildfires

NEW-YORK, July 30. /TASS/. Six people were killed in a raging wildfire in Northern California, USA, the Associated Press agency reported on Sunday.

According to Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko, rescue teams have found the body of a person who did not evacuate despite receiving an evacuation warning. The victim was not identified. The sheriff's department has received seven outstanding missing persons reports, Bosenko informed. The Reuters news agency reports that in total, 17 people are reported missing.

According to earlier reports, two children and their 70-year-old grandmother were killed in the fire, along with two firefighters.

More than 40,000 people have been evacuated from the Shasta County in the last week due to the raging wildfires. In the past 24 hours, the fire has spread over the area of 360 square kilometers. Over 3,500 firefighters and 20 helicopters are involved in putting out the fire. So far, only 5% of the fire has been contained.

520 homes and buildings have been destroyed by the fire, with about 5,000 structures currently in danger. On Saturday, US President Donald Trump declared a state of emergency in California due to the wildfires, and ordered to provide federal aid to the state.
