Trump calls idea of increasing taxes on millionaires 'disruptive'

The US president added that "other countries that have done it have lost their wealthy people"

WASHINGTON, April 24. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump did not support raising income taxes for millionaire Americans, as, in his view, many wealthy individuals could leave the country as a result.

"I think it (raising taxes - TASS) would be very disruptive because a lot of millionaires would leave the country," Trump told reporters at the White House.

"You know, in the past, they left states. They’d move from one state to another. Now, with transportation so fast and accessible, they leave countries," he said.

He added that "other countries that have done it have lost their wealthy people."

In early April, the Semafor portal, reported citing sources that Trump was open to considering the idea of raising taxes for the country’s richest residents. The publication noted that such a move would help Republicans counter attacks from Democrats who accuse their political opponents of failing to deliver on promises made to the American working class.

Last June, Bloomberg highlighted that Trump was able to secure the support of wealthy donors before the presidential election, in part, by promising to reduce taxes for wealthy Americans.
