HAIKOU /China/, May 22. /TASS/. Lychee fruits from LingshuiLi Autonomous County, located in China's Hainan Province, are in demand not only in other regions of China, but also beyond its borders, China News Service reported.
According to the article, a lychee carnival was held on May 10-11 in Hainan's Lingshui Li Autonomous County. It was attended by buyers and distribution companies from various regions of China, as well as other countries, particularly Russia, Malaysia, and the United States. Visitors to the event could sample lychee fruits and discuss prospects for cooperation and supplies, the portal reported.
The paper says that Lingshui Li Autonomous County is characterized by a tropical maritime climate: the region's unique environment factors in on the taste, shape and appearance of various varieties of lychee fruits grown there. The material also emphasizes that China is the largest producer of lychee in the world, accounting for about 80% of the fruit grown in the world.
"Lychee fruits from Lingshui Li Autonomous County are supplied to various cities in China, particularly Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and a number of others," Fan Xiancai, the deputy head of the county, was quoted as saying. "As for the foreign market, export shipments are made to the United States, Canada, Japan, as well as a number of other countries and regions in the world," he pointed out. The official also noted that according to forecasts, the lychee yield this year is expected to reach 18,000 tons.
