Russia, Venezuela to increase cooperation on peaceful nuclear energy, oil output — Lavrov

According to Russian Foreign Minister, Russia and Venezuela agree that working in these fields contributes to national economic stability and strengthens the two countries' technical autonomy

CARACAS, February 20. /TASS/. Russia and Venezuela agreed to increase the pace and volume of cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear use and in the field of oil production, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference following negotiations with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto.

"We put special focus to increasing trade and economic relations. There are numerous opportunities here. The high-level intergovernmental trade and economic commission between Russia and Venezuela plays a critical role in our opinion. Its 18th meeting was held in Moscow last October, and very promising areas of cooperation were outlined, including expanding cooperation in the fields of oil production, gas field development, agriculture, medicine and pharmaceuticals, space exploration, information and communication technologies, as well as innovation," he stated.

"Peaceful use of nuclear energy, which we also discussed today, looks promising. We decided to accelerate and expand our cooperation in all these areas," Lavrov continued.

According to Lavrov, Russia and Venezuela agree that working in these fields contributes to national economic stability and strengthens the two countries' technical autonomy. "We are ready to share the experience that we have accumulated in recent years with our Venezuelan friends," Lavrov said.

In addition, the minister stated that Moscow and Caracas are increasing cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
