Indian media reported this summer than the country was negotiating purchase of 8-9 mln tons of wheat with Russia

NEW DELHI, December 6. /TASS/. The Indian authorities are considering the possibility of importing 1 mln tons of wheat from Russia to curb the growth of domestic prices in the run-up to the national election in the country next spring, The New Indian Express wrote citing sources.

The Russian wheat is better and cheaper compared with other countries’ products, one of the sources said, adding that India might allow imports of around 1 mln tons of wheat from Russia to encourage the domestic market before the elections.

The information has not been officially confirmed yet. Indian media reported this summer than the country was negotiating purchase of 8-9 mln tons of wheat with Russia.
