Kazakhstan, Russia have huge prospects of cooperation in agriculture — Tokayev

The republic should not compete with Russia on the Eurasian Economic Union’s market of fertilizers, the Kazakh leader said

ASTANA, November 9. /TASS/. Kazakhstan has huge prospects of cooperation with Russia in agriculture, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

"Our countries have huge prospects for expanding trade and mutually beneficial cooperation in the agriculture sector. Suffice to say that Kazakhstan and Russia are among the biggest producers of agriculture products and among top global grain exporters," he said in a video address to participants of the Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum.

Kazakhstan has started the reform in the area of science within the system that includes three elements, among them education, science, production with the emerging role of research universities, the president noted. "We should work on the creation of joint centers of agriculture innovations that would deal with commercialization and industrial introduction of new technologies, including artificial intellect," he said.

The republic should not compete with Russia on the Eurasian Economic Union’s (EAEU) market of fertilizers, Tokayev said. "Due to target markets refocusing import of Russian fertilizers to Kazakhstan has increased considerably with respective consequences for Kazakh enterprises. I don’t think we should compete with each other on the domestic market of the Eurasian Economic Union. We should pool efforts in searching for ways to increase access to fertilizers for our farmers and enter foreign markets," he said.
