HAIKOU /China/, October 9. /TASS/. The demand for tours to Hainan Island tripled during the Golden Week, compared to the same period in 2022, the Hainan Daily newspaper reported with reference to Ctrip, the country’s leading online travel agency.
According to Ctrip, the number of tours to Hainan increased year-on-year by 212% during the Golden Week, a week-long national holiday on the occasion of the Zhong Qiu Jie Festival (Mid-Autumn Festival), which fell on September 29 this year, and China's National Day on October 1. Hainan accounted for more than 70% of inter-regional tours during the period, according to the company's data. The southernmost Chinese province was the most popular among residents of Beijing, Shanghai, such large cities as Chengdu, Guangzhou and Changsha.
The management of Ocean Flower Island, one of Hainan's major tourist complexes, commented that more than 300 thousand tourists visited this facility during the eight days. It's cultural program, which included fireworks, light shows, was noted to be of great interest to visitors.
The Golden Week saw a sharp increase in the occupancy rate of local hotels. Thus, the number of rooms booked in prestigious hotels in Haikou (the administrative center of the province) increased by almost 50% compared to the same period of pre-pandemic 2019. As for the resort city of Sanya, the corresponding figure rose by 118%.
According to the newspaper, one of the important factors that helped boost interest in Hainan was the widespread improvement in the quality of tourism services in the province.
