Russian petroleum products remain in demand in Europe, says Novak

The removal of a number of petroleum products from the sanctions list legalizes ‘gray’ fuel supply schemes which have been in place for a long time already, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed

MOSCOW, February 8. /TASS/. Russian petroleum products are still in demand in EU countries, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told reporters, adding that the fact that two types of petroleum products have been removed from the price ceiling list only confirms this.

"Yesterday, a couple of additional amendments to the European Union’s regulations, exemptions were released. This is further confirmation of the fact that Russian petroleum products are in demand in Europe, as European politicians have demonstrated that there is no logic behind their actions, and they make such decisions, thinking of ways out of the situation," he noted.

The removal of a number of petroleum products from the sanctions list legalizes ‘gray’ fuel supply schemes which have been in place for a long time already, Novak stressed.

That said, he expressed confidence that Russia’s oil sector would continue to work steadily despite the embargo on supplies of petroleum products imposed by the European Union.

On Tuesday, the European Commission published an explanation of the decision on the introduction of price caps on Russian petroleum products, in which it spelled out cases where price ceilings do not apply.

Petroleum products produced from Russian oil outside the country, as well as the blend of Russian fuel with petroleum products from other countries provided they are mixed on the territory of third countries, do not fall under sanctions.
