Kazakh Prime Minister calls on stepping up removal of barriers to trade in EAEU

As Alikhan Smailov noted, the formation of trade flows in the EAEU space should also be a priority

ALMATY, February 3. /TASS/. The countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) should step up work to remove barriers to mutual trade, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov said on Friday. He was speaking at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.

"We need to focus as much as possible on the practical implementation of the measures of the EAEU development strategy until 2025 and the agreement on the EAEU. First of all, this is the removal of barriers in mutual trade. Despite the positive dynamics in the removal of barriers, there are still elements of customs control at internal borders, in fact, there is no national regime in public procurement, sanitary veterinary and other restrictions are widely applied," Smailov said.

According to him, all this does not allow the business of the EAEU countries to fully experience the benefits from the membership in the Union. As the Prime Minister noted, the formation of trade flows in the EAEU space should also be a priority.

"Accelerated automation of information exchange will increase the competitiveness of our goods and economies as a whole. This will give an additional impetus to the development of the transit potential of our states, as well as strengthening cooperation ties between economic entities of the EAEU countries," Smailov explained.
