Hainan's Phoenix Airport peaked at 80,000 people per day during New Year travel period

Phoenix's daily passenger traffic has reached the highest mark in the past two years during the Chunyun period

HAIKOU /China/, January 30. /TASS/. Phoenix International Airport in Sanya city on Hainan is welcoming more than 80 thousand people a day in the peak of New Year's travel. This was reported by the Sanya Daily newspaper.

According to the newspaper, Phoenix's daily passenger traffic has reached its highest point in the past two years for the Chunyun (Spring Festival travel rush) period. This is the busiest 40 days for China's transportation system due to national holidays and the Lunar New Year vacation season (January 22).

According to the newspaper, on January 26, Sanya's airport handled 81,900 passengers. Heavy passenger traffic was recorded, in particular, from Beijing, Wuhan, Harbin, and a number of cities in eastern and southern China.

Chunyun officially began on January 7 and will end on February 15 in the PRC. Many residents have traditionally visited their parents and close relatives living in other regions of the country.

Sanya Phoenix International Airport, or Sanya Fenghuang Airport, is among the key air harbors in China. The Airports Council International (ACI) recognized it in 2019 as the best in Asia among airfields equipped for civil aviation and hosting 15 to 25 million passengers a year.
