BERLIN, March 30. /TASS/. About 96 million euros are blocked on the accounts of Russian legal entities and individuals in Germany as part of the sanctions imposed due to the situation in Ukraine, ARD TV Channel announced on Wednesday.
According to the TV channel, this is the first time when the federal government released data on how much money is currently blocked in Germany in connection with sanctions against Russian companies and individuals.
Before March 21, banks froze a total of 95,514,306.40 euros. This means that owners cannot withdraw or transfer these funds.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a televised address that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation. The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories. After that the US, the EU, the UK and a number of other states announced that they would impose sanctions against Russian legal entities and individuals.
In mid-March, the European Union approved the fourth package of sanctions against Russia, which includes economic and personal restrictive measures. In particular, the EU limited the import of steel and iron from Russia, investments in the country's energy sector, exports of luxury goods to Russia. It also imposed sanctions against Russian businessmen, journalists and companies.
