CHISINAU, March 18. /TASS/. The gas distribution company Moldovagaz fully paid for gas consumption in March to Gazprom, head of Moldovagaz Vadim Cheban said on Friday.
"JSC "Moldovagaz" fully paid to PJSC "Gazprom" for the current gas supplies in the first half of March. During the current week, the company transferred $43 million to the supplier," Cheban wrote in his Telegram channel.
In October 2021, Moldova and Gazprom extended the contract for gas supplies by five years. One of the main conditions of the contract was the repayment of the debt and timely payments for current supplies. Under the contract by the 20th day of each month Moldovagaz was to pay for gas supplied in the previous month and make an advance payment for the current month.
However, in the second half of last November, Gazprom threatened to cut off gas deliveries to Moldova after Moldovagaz failed to pay on time. The situation repeated itself in January. In order to pay off, both times Moldovagaz had to resort to the assistance of the government. The parliament declared a state of emergency in the country’s energy sector until March 20.
