Russia demands that Apple, Google eliminate election interference violations

The Russian side drew attention to US IT companies Apple and Google, with their actions during elections in Russia considered illegal and directly related to interference in the internal affairs of Russia

MOSCOW, September 16. /TASS/. The Russian Public Prosecution Service gave formal notice to the heads of Apple and Google, demanding that they eliminate violations related to interference in the election campaign in Russia, Chair of the Ad Hoc Commission on Protecting State Sovereignty and Preventing Interference in the Domestic Affairs of Russia Andrey Klimov announced on Thursday.

"There are official notices from the Russian prosecutor's office dated September 9, 2021, to the CEO of Apple, Mr. Cook and the CEO of Google, Mr. Pichai. Both notices contain demands to take comprehensive measures to eliminate violations of Russian law indicated by the prosecutor’s office, contributing to illegal interference in the elections," he said.

"In particular, the Russian side drew attention to US IT companies Apple and Google, with their actions during elections in Russia considered illegal and directly related to interference in the internal affairs of Russia," Klimov added.

First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov said earlier that specific crimes are being committed with the participation of Apple and Google, and the scale of these crimes may only grow in the coming days.
