Pentagon plans to introduce AI-based military planning system

According to the statement, "the system will be deployed initially with U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) and U.S. European Command (EUCOM) to support mission-critical planning activities, including campaign development, theater-wide resource allocation, and strategic assessment"

WASHINGTON, March 6. /TASS/. The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) of the US Department of Defense has awarded a contract to the US company Scale AI to develop a prototype of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based military planning system called Thunderforge, as follows from a news release on the DIU website.

"The Thunderforge technology solution will provide AI-assisted planning capabilities, decision support tools, and automated workflows, enabling military planners to navigate evolving operational environments," the news release reads. It is noted that the new system is being implemented to accelerate the decision-making process.

According to the statement, "the system will be deployed initially with U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) and U.S. European Command (EUCOM) to support mission-critical planning activities, including campaign development, theater-wide resource allocation, and strategic assessment."

According to Bryce Goodman, DIU Thunderforge Program Lead and contractor, the Pentagon's current "military planning processes rely on decades-old technology and methodologies." He said the new system will allow "decision-makers to operate at the pace required for emerging conflicts."

According to DIU, Scale AI is also planning to collaborate with U.S. military-industrial company Anduril and Microsoft Corporation, whose technological solutions could be used in the creation of the Thunderforge system.
