BEIJING, December 14. /TASS/. Aircraft from the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force have not intruded on South Korean airspace, and their flights in the region comply with international law, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a briefing.
"As far as I know, this is an ordinary flight by Chinese military aircraft over international waters; there is nothing objectionable about it; it [the flight] complies with international law," Mao clarified.
The Chinese Defense Ministry has not yet commented on the situation.
Earlier, the Yonhap news agency, citing the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces, reported that Russian and Chinese warplanes had allegedly entered South Korea’s air defense identification zone, after which Seoul scrambled its military aircraft. According to its data, two Chinese and four Russian planes were involved.
The Russian side has repeatedly pointed out that the "air defense identification zone" was established by Seoul unilaterally and does not create any legal obligations for other nations. South Korea requires notification of the passage of aircraft through this space.
