BUCHAREST, April 28. /TASS/. Heads of both chambers of Romanian parliament, who recently visited Ukraine, speculated that arms shipments to this country could be possible, Agerpres reported Thursday.
"No effort, even if it includes weapons, must be missed. <…> Ukraine needs help for reconstruction, [and] it must be provided with support to defend itself as well," Senate speaker Florin Citu said Thursday.
"This conversation [about weapons] did take place, it is normal; first and foremost, legal framework is required, and we must look at the development of the front in Ukraine," says Marcel Ciolacu, speaker of the Chamber of Deputies (lower house of the Parliament). "This why we went [to Ukraine], to offer more aid, to clarify certain aspects that could only be discussed in person, and, should it be necessary, Romania will make this decision. <…> Romania must be prepared for such step, both from the standpoint of legislation and in terms of political decision. In my opinion, Romania is ready at any moment."
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a aid request from Donbass republics. He underscored that Moscow does not plan to occupy Ukrainian territories, but to denazify and demilitarize the republic.
