TEL AVIV, October 18. /TASS/. Israel must complete its important "tasks on all fronts" within the next two years, while Donald Trump is still US president, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a campaign address.
"We have two years left in my friend President Trump’s term, and this is precisely the time to accomplish our main tasks on all fronts," he said in an address to voters posted on his X page.
He had previously stated on several occasions that, since 2023, Israel has been waging a "war on seven fronts," referring to the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Yemen."
Touching on the upcoming elections to Knesset (parliament), he noted that "these elections are crucial for" Israel’s future. According to the Israeli prime minister, a victory by the opposition bloc, which includes left-wing and Arab parties, would lead to the creation of an independent Palestine. Only his Likud party and the coalition of right-wing, far-right, and religious forces formed around it can prevent the recognition of Palestinian statehood, he stressed.
Elections to Israel’s Knesset, or parliament, will be held on October 27, 2026. The leader of the winning party will be tasked with forming a new government. Today, according to the latest polls, the bloc of the current ruling coalition led by Netanyahu’s Likud party and the united opposition are neck and neck. However, neither side can count on the majority of 61 out of 120 seats in the Knesset required to form a ruling coalition.
