BERLIN, June 16. /TASS/. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will continue to verify compliance with nuclear safeguards in Iran when the security situation allows it, Reuters reported, citing IAEA chief Rafael Grossi.
"The [International Atomic Energy] Agency is and will remain present in Iran. Safeguards inspections in Iran will continue as soon as safety conditions allow, as is required under Iran’s NPT Treaty safeguards obligations," the news agency quoted Grossi as saying in a statement to the board of governors.
According to the IAEA chief, the current military escalation is hindering the process of reaching a diplomatic solution on Iran's nuclear program. Grossi added that he is in contact with IAEA inspectors in the country and also announced the agency's "cooperation and exchange of information" with the Iranian authorities.
"There has been no additional damage at the Natanz Fuel Enrichment Plant site since the Friday attack, which destroyed the above-ground part of the Pilot Fuel Enrichment Plant. At the Esfahan nuclear site, four buildings were damaged in Friday’s attack: the central chemical laboratory, a uranium conversion plant, the Tehran reactor fuel manufacturing plant, and the UF4 (uranium tetrafluoride) to EU metal processing facility, which was under construction," Grossi said.
The IAEA chief noted that radiation levels outside the facility are normal. However, radiation and chemical contamination have been detected inside the facility.
