US, Russia work on moratorium on strikes on ships in Black Sea — White House

Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff noted that so far the sides have agreed to stop strikes on energy facilities

NEW YORK, March 19. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff has said that Washington and Moscow are working out the introduction of a moratorium between Russia and Ukraine on strikes on warships and civilian vessels in the Black Sea.

He noted that so far the sides have agreed to stop strikes on energy facilities. "We are also working towards a Black Sea moratorium on hits, on naval vessels and freighters carrying grain and things of that sort," he said in an interview with Bloomberg. "Ultimately, that would evolve into a full ceasefire, which is a bit more complicated, because there's a 2000-kilometer border, there's Kursk, and there's a lot of details that go into that."

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump held a telephone conversation on March 18 to discuss a 30-day ceasefire in the Ukrainian conflict, conditions for preventing escalation, and several international issues. During the call, Putin endorsed Trump's proposal for both parties involved in the conflict in Ukraine to mutually refrain from strikes on energy infrastructure.
