A number of officials familiar with preparations for the talks on Ukraine in Saudi Arabia called the timeline for conflict resolution promoted by Washington "ambitious but potentially unrealistic." According to Bloomberg's sources, the most likely prospect is the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict by the end of the year.

On February 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump held a telephone conversation. They discussed the issue of cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, bilateral relations and a number of other issues. They also agreed to continue contacts and organize a face-to-face meeting.
