Russian senior diplomat hopes Trump will be told BRICS does not want to replace dollar

Such an approach reflects the drive for "a polyphony world order," in which various economic systems may coexist, Ryabkov said, adding that Washington’s attempts to maintain a monopoly in the global financial system may have ominous consequences

NEW YORK, December 4. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has said that he hopes that after US President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated there would be opportunities to tell his team that BRICS does not want to replace the dollar.

"We in BRICS want to develop a system that would allow us to service what our economic operators need in parallel to what us and others may have," he said in an interview with CNN.

Such an approach reflects the drive for "a polyphony world order," in which various economic systems may coexist, Ryabkov said, adding that Washington’s attempts to maintain a monopoly in the global financial system may have ominous consequences. "I urge sensible people in this country to consider this before it's too late," he noted.

Earlier, Trump said that he would impose 100% customs duties on goods from BRICS member states should the alliance move away from the dollar. In commenting on Trump’s statement, Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed out that the dollar is not what it was four years ago when Trump was still in office, owing to moves made by his Democratic rivals, adding that the dollar’s clout is decreasing globally.
