Hungary will oppose anti-Russian sanctions in nuclear energy — Foreign Minister

"We believe that European sanctions in this area are not necessary, given the fact that the United States purchased twice as much uranium from Russia in the first half of this year alone than last year," Peter Szijjarto said

VIENNA, September 25. /TASS/. Hungary will not support sanctions against Russia in nuclear energy because they contradict its own interests and will weaken Europe's position in competition with the United States. the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto said this at the session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna.

"Hungary has never supported any sanctions that could create obstacles to nuclear cooperation with Russia. We will never support such sanctions, because they would be contrary to our national interests. We oppose any sanctions regarding nuclear technology, fuel, construction or operation of nuclear energy facilities. We believe that European sanctions in this area are not necessary, given the fact that the United States purchased twice as much uranium from Russia in the first half of this year alone than last year," he said.
