MOSCOW, March 7. /TASS/. The Ambassador of Guinea to Moscow was invited to the Foreign Ministry over the situation around the Nordgold mine in the republic, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, adding that the envoy offered assurances that the Guinean authorities everything possible to ensure the mine’s uninterrupted operation.
The Ministry noted that the situation around the Lefa mine in Guinea has been very ambiguous recently.
"The work at this major deposit, being developed by Russia’s Nordgold and where about 8 tons of gold were mined in 2022, has become complicated. Even worse, there is now a threat to the employees and the property. The reason for this is the fight for leadership within the worker’s union at the mine," the Foreign Ministry noted.
"On March 7, the newly-appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Guinea Nyakoi Haba was invited to the Russian Foreign Ministry, where he offered assurances that the authorities of his country take all measures necessary to ensure further uninterrupted operation of Nordgold on the Guinean soil," the Ministry said.
