SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming, in turn, expressed conviction that Iran, with its rich history, can be an active member of the organization

TEHRAN, March 7. /TASS/. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi met with visiting Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Zhang Ming, the ISNA news agency reported on Tuesday.

According to ISNA, Raisi noted that his country "attaches major significance to cooperation with the SCO countries." He noted that these countries have rich natural resources and vast territories, which allows the organization to play a significant role in the system of international relations and "effectively resist the unipolarity."

Zhang Ming, in turn, expressed conviction that Iran, with its rich history, can be an active member of the SCO.

During a SCO summit in Samarkand on September 15-16, 2022, Iran signed a memorandum on commitments for the status of a SCO member state. The official procedure of the accession to the organization will be completed when Iran implements relevant obligations.
