Russia-France friendship to continue despite conflict — Charles de Gaulle’s grandson

Gaulle said that he was impressed by the patriotism of the Russian people

VOLGOGRAD, February 3. /TASS/. The history of friendship between Russia and France will continue despite the conflict, Pierre de Gaulle, grandson of France’s former President Charles de Gaulle, said on Friday.

"There is a Russian dream in France and a French dream in Russia. There is a long history of friendship. And it will go on for a long time, despite the conflict," he told journalists while visiting the Battle of Stalingrad Museum in Volgograd.

According to de Gaulle, he is impressed by the patriotism of the Russian people and would like to see such unity in Europe. "In the West, especially in NATO countries, they are seeking to denigrate Russia’s image and present facts in a backwards kind of way. The more they disparage its image, the more I feel the unity and solidarity of the Russian people," he added.

Volgograd region governor Andrey Bocharov announced a decision to install the bust of Charles de Gaulle at the Battle of Stalingrad Museum during celebrations of the victory in the Great Patriotic War (the Eastern Front during WWII where the former Soviet Union fought against Nazi Germany - TASS) and invited Pierre de Gaulle to take part in the unveiling ceremony.

Pierre de Gaulle is taking part in celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army in the Battle of Stalingrad.
