Iran is not going to close Strait of Hormuz in response to EU sanctions — ISNA news agency

On January 23, the EU adopted the 4th package of sanctions for "human rights violations in Iran"

MOSCOW, January 23. /TASS/. Iran’s Majlis (parliament) is not considering the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in response to the potential decision of the European Parliament to add the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces) to the list of terrorist organizations, the ISNA news agency reported on Monday, citing an official representative of the Presidium of the Iranian Parliament.

"A group of MPs developed and proposed a plan called Countermeasures. It does not mention plans to close the Strait of Hormuz," the official said adding that the Islamic Republic has many different options for dealing with threats from enemies.

On January 23, the EU adopted the 4th package of sanctions for "human rights violations in Iran." The black list includes 18 individuals and 19 legal entities, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and all its units in various provinces of Iran. However, the IRGC was not included in the list of terrorist organizations, since this requires a court decision from one of the EU countries, which provides evidence of terrorist activities in one of the countries of the union.
