UN determined to resolve situation around export of Russian food and fertilizer

On November 2, Russia decided to resume its participation in the Ukraine grain deal after it received UN-and Turkey-brokered written guarantees from Ukraine that it would not use the security corridor in the Black Sea for military purposes

UNITED NATIONS, November 8. /TASS/. The United Nations is determined to resolve the situation around the export of Russian food and fertilizers under the grain deal, Associate Spokesperson for the Secretary-General Stephanie Tremblay said on Tuesday.

"You can be assured that everyone is determined to see this file moving forward and to see positive outcome on all the issues linked to the Black Sea green initiative and also on the other side of the agreement linked to the Russians, grain fertilizers and foods," she said, adding that "discrete diplomacy is really a key right now."

On November 2, Russia decided to resume its participation in the Ukraine grain deal after it received UN-and Turkey-brokered written guarantees from Ukraine that it would not use the security corridor in the Black Sea for military purposes. However, Moscow said it reserves the right to withdraw from the agreement if Kiev violates its guarantees.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on November 3 that Moscow is satisfied that Ukraine had signed security guarantees with Ankara’s mediation but it sees no results on the other part of the package of agreements concerning the removal of obstacles for Russian fertilizer and grain exports.
