EU countries agree to slap new sanctions against Russia, says agency

The eighth package of anti-Russia sanctions is expected to be submitted for discussion at an informal summit of heads of countries and governments of EU countries that will be held on October 6 and 7

BRUSSELS, October 5. /TASS/. The EU countries have agreed another package of sanctions against Russia, the CTK news agency reported on Wednesday citing sources in Brussels.

"EU states have agreed another package of sanctions against Russia. It includes introduction of a price cap on Russian oil. Dozens of Russians have been put on the sanctions list," the report said.

Meanwhile, the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union reported on its Twitter page that the package contains "prohibition of maritime transport of Russian oil to third countries above the oil price cap and a ban on related services."

New restrictions also include an extended import ban on goods, in particular, "steel products, wood pulp, paper, machinery and appliances, chemicals, plastic, cigarettes etc.", a ban on providing IT, engineering and legal services to Russian entities, and a further tech-export ban.

The eighth package of anti-Russia sanctions is expected to be submitted for discussion at an informal summit of heads of countries and governments of EU countries that will be held on Thursday and Friday, October 6 and 7, in Prague.
