TOKYO, May 23./TASS/. Japanese Emperor Naruhito received US President Joe Biden at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Monday. Footage of the meeting was shown by the NHK television channel.
No details of the conversation were given. Naruhito previously met with Biden in 2013 as Crown Prince, while Biden was U.S. Vice President.
The most recent time when the Japanese monarch received an American president was in 2019, when Naruhito met with then US President Donald Trump.
Biden will then hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and meet with relatives of Japanese abducted by North Korean secret services in the 20th century.
Biden’s visit will last until May 24. On Tuesday, he will take part in a summit of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, bringing together Japan, the US, India and Australia.
