NUR-SULTAN, July 1./TASS/. First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev believes that the West seeks to remove the Central Asian states from the sphere of Russian influence.

"The West does not like our desire to unite the Central Asian republics. They don’t want this. They want to separate us all from Russia now. This is what they are working on," Nazarbayev said in a documentary shown on Khabar republican TV channel on Thursday.

The journalist also asked Nazarbayev to comment on statements from some Russian politicians about northern regions of Kazakhstan. The first president noted that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had closed the chapter on that, by saying that Russia had no territorial claims to Kazakhstan. "Today, people are going about saying things, politicians are saying things," he admitted. "This all goes within the context of eastern Ukraine, Crimea. So, one should not pay attention to such statements," Nazarbayev said.

According to him, "the fuss against China" in Kazakhstan also comes from outside. "These are third forces seeking to put us at loggerheads with China, at loggerheads with Russia," he stressed.
