About seven dead in Ukraine's February 1 attack on Sudzha boarding school — eyewitness

For now, there is no possibility to know the exact number of people killed and to recover the bodies from under the rubble, as demining efforts continue in the town, while its streets are still being attacked

KURSK, March 27. /TASS/. Nearly seven people were killed in Ukraine's missile strike on a boarding school in Sudzha in the Kursk Region on February 1, a local resident told TASS.

About 100 people were inside the boarding school in Sudzha at the time of the deadly attack. "Civilians usually came to the boarding school to get humanitarian aid. There were about 100 people at the time of the strike. It killed several of them, about seven people, [their bodies are] under the rubble. <...> The rest were injured in one way or another. The slabs were falling, so some people got broken bones, and some suffered from other injuries," the resident stated.

For now, there is no possibility to know the exact number of people killed and to recover the bodies from under the rubble - demining efforts continue in the town, while its streets are still being attacked. Removal of debris is time-consuming, which makes the operation dangerous.

On February 1, the Ukrainian army conducted a missile strike on a boarding school in Sudzha. Russian air defenses reported detecting Ukrainian missile launches aimed at Sudzha from the Sumy Region. The attack resulted in casualties, although the Ukrainian side has not disclosed the exact number of people killed. The Investigative Committee of Russia has initiated a criminal case against Rostislav Karpusha, the commander of the 19th Separate Missile Brigade of the Ukrainian army, on suspicion of committing a terrorist act. Investigators say that on February 1, Karpusha ordered his subordinates to carry out a missile attack on the boarding school in Sudzha.
