MOSCOW, November 29. /TASS/. The Russian Union of Journalists asked members of Russian news media to join the appeal to UNESCO following its latest report on the safety of reporters.
The union, which posted the appeal to its website, said that its chairman, Vladimir Solovyov, and Pavel Gusev, chairman of the Moscow Union of Journalists, on November 18 sent a letter to UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay about a UNESCO Report on the Safety of Journalists and the Danger of Impunity for 2022-2023. They expressed their indignation at the lack of information in the report about Russian journalists that were killed or injured in the line of duty over the past two years.
The union called on Russian journalists to support their effort and send a consent under their news outlet’s official letterhead to join the appeal to UNESCO from the Russian Union of Journalists. The consent should be sent to the union’s address at ruj@ruj.ru.
"Let's all together fight for truth and justice in the name of the memory of our fallen colleagues!" the union said.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova previously commented on the report by saying that UNESCO and the organization's director-general refused to notice the Kiev regime's crimes against Russian journalists. According to the diplomat, data in Azoulay’s report suggested that not a single Russian journalist was killed in 2022 or 2023.
