Russia’s former chief sanitary doctor says COVID-19 pandemic may be dissipating

Though it’s hard to say when the pandemic may end, it is no longer as dangerous as it was before, Onishchenko added

MOSCOW, January 24. /TASS/. The coronavirus pandemic is running out of strength, however it’s hard to say when it will end, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Gennady Onishchenko, told TASS on Tuesday.

"The [coronavirus] pandemic is still active, this pandemic, according to my estimates, <…> is dissipating, but I cannot rule out that there will be new ones, primarily, perhaps, coronaviruses," he explained.

Though it’s hard to say when the pandemic may end, it is no longer as dangerous as it was before, Onishchenko added.

On Monday, Russia reported 4,719 new daily coronavirus cases, a drop from a day earlier when 5,729 cases were recorded.
