Fewer extremist crimes in Russia since onset of operation in Ukraine — Interior Ministry

Currently there are new articles in the administrative and criminal code on providing false information about the activity of Russia’s armed forces, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate for Countering Extremism Dmitry Petrov also noted

MOSCOW, April 20. /TASS/. The number of crimes of extremist nature has decreased in Russia since the beginning of the special military operation in Ukraine, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate for Countering Extremism of the Russian Interior Ministry Dmitry Petrov said on Wednesday.

"If we take the statistics of crimes with the signs of extremist nature then on the whole, the statistics of such crimes have gone down," he said at a session of the presidium of the Public Council at the Russian Interior Ministry replying to a question as to how the criminal statistics had changed since the end of February when the special military operation in Ukraine began.

The official added that currently there are new articles in the administrative and criminal code on providing false information about the activity of Russia’s armed forces. "Here are these statistics, they exist but not on such an outrageous scale as they try to present it, literally just a few criminal cases that can be counted on one hand, they are all under control and preventive measures are being taken against each individual who committed an administrative offence," he noted.

He also said that Russians treat Ukrainian citizens well without any acts of hooliganism, not to mention extremism. No such instances have been documented at accommodation facilities for the refugees either, the official stressed.
