Falcon 9 rocket debris fall near Poland's Poznan — space agency

The fall of an unknown object near Poznan was first reported by local residents

MOSCOW, February 19. /TASS/. An unknown object that fell in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the town of Komorniki near Poznan turned out to be a fragment of a Falcon 9 rocket of the Starlink company, which belongs to US businessman Elon Musk, the Polish Space Agency said.

"The Department of Space Security of the Polish Space Agency confirms that on the night of February 19, 2025 at 6:46-6:48 a.m. local time there was an uncontrolled re-entry into the atmosphere over the territory of Poland of one of the fragments of the launch vehicle FALCON 9 R/B (number NORAD/COSPAR ID 62878/2025-022Y)," the agency said in a statement on its website. "The rocket having a mass of about 4 tons was part of the Space X Starlink Group 11-4 mission, launched from the US Vandenberg Air Force Base in California on February 1, 2025," the agency said.

The fall of an unknown object near Poznan was first reported by local residents, who contacted the government security center, Polish media said. Witnesses described bright flashes in the sky and sounds of an explosion. The object found on the territory of a local enterprises is 1.5 meters long and wrapped in foil with a tube sticking out of the middle, Polsat TV channel reported.
