Ukraine violates at least 7 articles of ECHR over 11 years — Russian senator

"The terrorist attacks in Donbass, Kursk, Belgorod, and other Russian regions serve as evidence of that," Konstantin Kosachev said

MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. The Kiev regime has violated at least seven fundamental articles of the European Convention over the past 11 years, including in Kursk, Belgorod, and Donbass, Deputy Speaker of the Russian Federation Council (upper house of parliament) Konstantin Kosachev said.

"All these years, Russia has been urging all international bodies to acknowledge the evidence - on May 2, 2014, neo-Nazis from Kiev committed a crime in Odessa. There were many other crimes between 2014 and 2022. Since the start of the special military operation, the Kiev regime has been committing war crimes. The terrorist attacks in Donbass, Kursk, Belgorod, and other Russian regions serve as evidence of that. According to my estimates, over the years, Kiev has violated at least seven articles of the European Convention of Human Rights. Western countries betray European principles every day by playing their geopolitical game around Ukraine," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

It is positive that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) found Ukraine guilty of committing the crime in Odessa in 2014, Kosachev said. However, it took the ECHR 11 years to make that decision, he noted. "Not by chance, the notorious reputation of 'justice that is delayed' has been attached to that court," he noted.

On May 2, 2014, in Odessa, the extremists of the Right Sector (an organization banned in Russia) and the so-called Maidan self-defense attacked a tent city on Kulikovo Field, where Odessa residents were collecting signatures for holding a referendum on the federalization of Ukraine and granting the Russian language official status. Federalization supporters took refuge in the House of Trade Unions, but the radicals surrounded the building and set it on fire. According to Ukraine’s Interior Ministry, 48 people were killed and over 240 injured.

While the authorities said that only "anti-Maidan" supporters were the instigators, the investigation, which lasted for several years, was unable to prove their guilt in court. As a result, all those who were initially detained were released in this case.
