MOSCOW, February 13. /TASS/. Russia is ready to further assist Tajikistan in modernizing its armed forces, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference on Thursday, following the talks with his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin.
"[During the meeting] we analyzed the implementation of our agreements in the military and military-technical fields. On our part, we confirmed our readiness to continue contributing to the modernization of the armed forces of Tajikistan," the Russian foreign minister said.
Moscow and Dushanbe are unanimous that Russia’s 201st military base stationed in Tajikistan "is a key factor of ensuring security on the southern frontiers within the CSTO [Collective Security Treaty Organization] area of responsibility," Lavrov stressed.
