MINSK, February 11. /TASS/. The signing of the Minsk-2 agreement became possible exclusively due to Russia's mediation, Russia’s ambassador to Belarus, Boris Gryzlov, told TASS.
"Minsk-2 became possible exclusively thanks to Russia's mediation. At the same time, Russia - it should be emphasized - has never even legally been a party to the conflict. Nevertheless, as a participant in the trilateral contact group, our country contributed with all its might to a peace settlement, for which, as it seemed at the time, both international legal and political conditions had been created," he said.
As Russia's ambassador pointed out, it is crucial to recognize that if the provisions of the document had been fully and effectively implemented, the Ukrainian crisis would not have escalated to the extent witnessed on the eve of the special military operation.
"Ukraine would have maintained its territorial integrity and sovereignty, enabling it to develop successfully. In simple terms, it would have continued to exist as a sovereign state," Gryzlov emphasized.
February 12 marks the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Package of Measures for the implementation of the Minsk Agreements, a step-by-step plan aimed at resolving the armed conflict in Donbass, also known as Minsk-2.
