MOSCOW, March 15. /TASS/. More than 2 mln people have voted remotely in the Russian presidential election via the government’s online platform, the portal’s observing data shows.
As of 3:13 p.m. Moscow time (12:13 p.m. GMT), 2,003,660 ballots have been issued to residents from 28 Russian regions who had applied for online voting. So, the online voter turnout amounted to 42%.
A total of 4.76 mln citizens plan to vote online through the government website. Moscow residents can vote on their own city’s online portal, with no pre-registration required.
The Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) then announced that voting will take place over three days on March 15-17. Four candidates will vie for the top office, namely New People party nominee Vladislav Davankov; self-nominated candidate and incumbent President Vladimir Putin; Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) nominee Leonid Slutsky; and Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) nominee Nikolay Kharitonov.
