Western talk about possibly deploying troops to Ukraine on Kremlin's radar

"We are well aware of Mr. Macron’s position on the need to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia," Dmitry Peskov noted

MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. The Kremlin has taken note of French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement about the possible deployment of Western troops to Ukraine, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

According to him, "the very fact that the possible deployment of troops from NATO countries is being discussed is very important as it is a new wrinkle." "We have already heard everything else the French president had to say and taken it into account. We are well aware of Mr. Macron’s position on the need to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia," Peskov added.

"However, we have taken note that the issue of troop deployment to Ukraine was indeed discussed," he conducted.

"We have also taken note of a very wide range of opinions on the issue. Indeed, there is no consensus. A number of countries that took part in the Paris event maintain a rather reasonable stance on the possible danger that such a step would create and the potential danger of being involved in a hot conflict on the battlefield. It’s certainly not in line with those countries’ interests and they need to understand that," Peskov noted.

Earlier, Macron said at a press conference after a meeting of European leaders that there was no consensus on the formal deployment of ground troops to Ukraine. However, he did not rule out such a possibility in the future. Macron added that Western countries were "determined to do everything it takes to prevent Russia" from winning the conflict.
