MOSCOW, November 29. /TASS/. The US and EU, by not acknowledging violations of the basic rights of Kosovo Serbs, are sending Kosovars into a frenzy of "Serbophobia," Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.
"The US and EU, using every opportunity to champion glorified democratic standards, <…> are turning a blind eye to violations of Kosovo Serbs’ basic rights. They simply don’t want to tangle with their Kosovar charges which, in turn, encourages even more aggressive ‘Serbophobia,’" the diplomat noted.
"The so-called Kosovo-Albanian authorities <…>, just like last year, grossly violated the electoral rights of local Serbs. They denied them the opportunity to participate at their place of residence in snap elections to the Serbian Parliament slated for December 17," Zakharova said.
The diplomat noted that "interim self-governing bodies in Pristina continue to ratchet up tensions in the South Serbian region, following a policy of oppressing the native non-Albanian population and aspiring to support their claims to a state status."
Zakharova branded Pristina’s proposal to conclude "some kind of a transnational agreement" as a farce. "The so-called Kosovo Premier Albin Kurti continues shameless blackmail, basically strong-arming Belgrade into recognizing the region’s independence," she noted.
"This is about yet another blow on the established practice of holding elections among the Serbs under the auspices of the OSCE mission to Kosovo," the diplomat concluded.
