West’s monopoly on AI 'dangerous' — Putin

According to the Russian president, it is necessary to "engage specialists in humanitarian disciplines in the common work"

MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. Monopolistic dominance of Western-developed technological systems in Russia is unacceptable and even dangerous, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a conference on artificial intelligence.

"Monopolistic dominance of such foreign technology in Russia is unacceptable, dangerous and impermissible," Putin said. "It is imperative to use Russian solutions in the field of creating reliable and transparent artificial intelligence systems that are also safe for humans."

According to the president, it is necessary to "engage specialists in humanitarian disciplines in the common work." Putin cited the example of successful cooperation between institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Yandex, which prepared the National Collection of the Russian Language.

"I also believe it is necessary for authorities at all levels, libraries and archives to help create a dataset for machine learning by providing it promptly and free of charge," the Russian president said.

"Our domestic artificial intelligence models should reflect all the riches and diversity of world culture, heritage, knowledge, and wisdom of all world civilizations. This will make us ever richer and more competitive," Putin stated. "Our traditional values, the richness and beauty of the Russian language, languages of other peoples of Russia - they should be the foundation of our research."
