NOVO-OGARYOVO, November 15. /TASS/. Clear and honest organization of elections plays a decisive role in maintaining domestic political stability in the country, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"The clear organization of elections, their open, honest, legally verified conduct is very important, if not decisive, for maintaining domestic political stability - both for the legitimacy of the elected authorities and for strengthening people's confidence in the election results," the head of state said at a meeting with representatives of election commissions.
He pointed out that the key role in the organization and conduct of elections naturally belongs to the election commissions, each of which acts independently on the basis of the law, its competence, functions and internal control. According to Putin, decisions are made collegially, as the commissions are composed of representatives of various political forces and social groups.
The president also noted that the commissions at all levels have 900,000 members with the right to vote, and thousands more observers from candidates, parties and public organizations take part in election monitoring.
