Russia to continue to speak out against any manifestations of neo-Nazism — diplomat

In his commentary on International Day of Liberation of Nazi concentration camps marked on April 11, Gennady Gatilov recalled that eleven million people, including five million Soviet citizens, were tortured to death in Nazi death camps

GENEVA, April 11. /TASS/. Russia will continue to speak out at the United Nations and other international formats against any expressions of neo-Nazism and will refresh the collective West’s memory about the tragic lessons of the past, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Geneva office Gennady Gatilov said on Tuesday.

In his commentary on International Day of Liberation of Nazi concentration camps marked on April 11, the Russian diplomat recalled that eleven million people, including five million Soviet citizens, were tortured to death in Nazi death camps. "Being guided by their twisted principles of a ‘superior race,’ the Nazis doomed entire nations to physical extinction," he noted. In 1945, the Soviet people and its allies in the anti-Hitler coalition defeated this evil on the battlefield but the fight against the Nazi legacy continues, and the West’s "short memory" hampers this fight.

In December 2022, countries of the collective West, including the former Axis powers, namely Germany, Italy, and Japan, for the first time voted against the annual resolution of the UN General Assembly resolution on combating the glorification of Nazism. The document condemning all practices that contribute to fueling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and other forms of discrimination, was essentially rejected by states that today actively support the Kiev regime, which since 2014 has pursued the goal of getting rid of "everyone and everything Russian," the Russian diplomat pointed out.

"We have seen in the example of present-day Ukraine what sad consequences stem from rewriting history and flirting with neo-Nazi ideologies," Gatilov stressed. "I would like to vow that at the United Nations and in other international formats we will continue to refresh the memory of the ‘forgetful’ West about the tragic lessons of the past." Russia, along with other responsible nations, will "stand up against any manifestations of neo-Nazism," he added.
