UN Secretary General assures restrictions on Russian grain exports to be lifted — Lavrov

Sergey Lavrov noted that all these promises have been made and expressed the hope that they will be fulfilled

BALI /Indonesia/, November 15. /TASS/. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres assured Russia that all commitments to lift restrictions on the export of Russian fertilizers and grain will be fulfilled, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters following his participation in the G20 summit.

"Today at the meeting, the Secretary General spoke about the promises the United States and the European Union conveyed to him, including on paper. I would say, they seem to set out good intentions. If they are fulfilled, then obstacles to the export of our fertilizers and grains will be removed. But it’s not about promises, it's how they will be implemented in practice," Lavrov said. "Today, the Secretary General swore that this is a priority issue for him," the minister added.

"They assure us through the lips of the Secretary General and he refers to his Western colleagues, that all economic operators involved in the supply chain of Russian fertilizers and grain receive reassurances that they will not be subject to sanctions if they cooperate on the implementation of trade deals with our grain. This includes the entry of Russian ships into European ports, the entry of foreign ships into our ports as well as ensuring the full operation of the Russian Agricultural Bank and, of course, ensuring normal insurance rates," the Russian top diplomat said.

Lavrov noted that all these promises have been made and expressed the hope that they will be fulfilled. However, according to the minister, five months after the conclusion of the grain deal, the Russian part of it has not yet yielded any practical results.

"But we must give credit to the UN Secretariat and the Secretary General personally - they are doing their best," Lavrov added.
