PARIS, October 27. /TASS/. Ukraine’s accelerated entry to the European Union is in the interests of neither the EU nor Ukraine, French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said on Wednesday.

"Ukraine was unanimously granted the status of a candidate country for joining the European Union at the EU Council in June. The path to accession [to the EU] is long and laborious. There will be no accelerated procedure or eased requirements. It would be neither in the interests of the European Union nor in the interests of Ukraine," she said.

On June 23, EU heads of state and government agreed to grant a candidate status to Ukraine. The European Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen, said back then that from now on Ukraine would have to work hard to carry out reforms in its bid for the EU membership.
